Matej Kren presents Scanner, at the Mambo Museum of Bologna until July 25

From March 25 to July 25 you can visit Scanners, the exhibition Matei Kren specifically designed for MAMbo. Scanner, the most impressive work to date by the artist, is a series of books 11 meters high, built by the accumulation of 90,000 volumes.

Matej Kren, considered one of greatest contemporary Slovak artists, from the '90s brought this type of intervention in different countries, motivated by a desire to investigate the inability of an achievement that can be considered final or complete, proposing instead an individual destabilizing experience.
The work, which consistently modifies the museum space, requires visitors to enter one at a time inside displacing them thanks to a spectacular sensorial vertigo. The cramped space inside the building is in fact modified by a series of mirrors causing a sensation of sublime knockdown, of alteration, which leads to an endless disorienting created to destabilize the spatial sense everybody is accustomed to. The mirror, which becomes both a tool to create the illusion and reveal it, puts the viewers in front of the problem of perception as they can easily see themselves reflected in a false infinite and still discover the llusion.
Central is the symbolic meaning of the book, where the role of container and content of knowledge is linked to its basic function of matter to be discovered, crammed, packed and therefore inaccessible.
