Boasting one of the oldest universities in the world and still going strong, Bologna has the amenities, sights and fascination of far larger cities without the roughness and hassle that can turn a holiday in any of the latter into a veritable nightmare. Visitors flying in will be welcomed by the sight of the city's warmly hospitable, terracotta-red roofs.
Bologna has been variously called "the learned", "the fat", and "the merry". Given its long and rich cultural history and lusciously tempting food, not to speak of its inhabitants' penchant for having fun and enjoying life, it truly deserves all three definitions. Comfortably and strategically nestling up against the Apennine foothills with the great plain of the Po Valley stretching out below its feet, Bologna reached its urban zenith in the thirteenth century. The vestiges of that far gone age are still vibrantly alive throughout the city today, and may be admired in its many fine churches, buildings, monuments, and indeed even in its very layout, its highly characteristic urban pattern being typical of that of a Medieval walled city.
Bologna is truly a treasure trove of artistic splendours, and discovering them in the many enchanting Medieval ways and byways, squares, malls and courts is a gratifying experience, ideal for the unhurried and unruffled visitor.
The HC3 4-star Hotel is conveniently located right in front of a bus stop, which in turn is but a few stops from the city's main square (Piazza Maggiore).
Alternatively, to reach the city center and go sightseeing Bologna and its many monuments and beauties, the visitor may hop into one of the many taxis that always transit in front of the Hotel and get into town in 10 minutes.
But for the visitor in a more leisurely and fitness-conscious mood, HC3's guests may prefer to avail themselves of bicycles made available by Hotel management and quickly cross the lovely green park separating the Hotel from the town centre.
In any case, Bologna is definitely a city made to measure for the pedestrian. Aside from its easily negotiable size, come hail, rain, sun or snow, the pedestrian is always ensured a comfortable sight-seeing or window-shopping walk thanks to the city's extensive network of covered footways. In fact, the city boasts well nigh forty kilometres of porticos.
Back from town, our guests may choose to relax in the Hotel's lounge area, listening to some good, soothing music, looking through one of the many dailies or weeklies on the tables, quietly sipping a cup of tea, herb tea or coffee, or to promptly retire to their comfortable rooms. All our finely appointed rooms are fully fitted out with everything the guest may require or wish for. And whether single or double, our excellent beds are sure to be a warmly welcoming, restful and uplifting for even the most tired traveller. Eating out in Bologna
Bologna is the hotbed of good food, starting from its world-famous first courses, not to speak of its other many specialities. Here are a few hints and tips on how to get the best out of Bolognese cuisine
Though I stayed on a liesure trip, I travel more often for business so am attuned to what makes a property desirable for that category of traveler. I liked this hotel for that purpose: internet availability, good room working desks, and relaxing environment.
